Tuschl II siRNA Assay
Knock-down of nuclear envelope protein Lamin. Elbashir, Harborth et al. Nature May 24 2001. This assay was proposed by Klaus Weber.

Alnylam with MIT and Harvard Develop a New siRNA Delivery Method

“With lipid particles, you’re not sure what fraction of the particles are really getting to the target tissue,” says Labhasetwar, Cleveland Clinic.

“The new particles (nucleic acid origami), developed by researchers at MIT, Alnylam Pharmaceuticals and Harvard Medical School, appear to overcome those challenges, Anderson says. Because the particles are made of DNA and RNA, they are biodegradable and pose no threat to the body. They can also be tagged with molecules of folate (vitamin B9) to target the abundance of folate receptors found on some tumors, including those associated with ovarian cancer — one of the deadliest, hardest-to-treat cancers.”

This development will be described in the June 3 issue of Nature Nanotechnology.

Hi John - any updates on the two motions to dismiss in play in the Mass. court? (Tekmira’s motion to dismiss the Alnylam patent infringement suit and ALNY/MP’s motion to dismiss Utah’s IP suit.) Anything from the hearing last week in the Utah case?

Shortly, Sherk. I’ll be putting stuff up argument by argument.

What is siRNA?
Elbashir etal. (left sidebar): "Double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) induces sequence-specific posttranscriptional gene silencing in many organisms by a process known as RNA interference (RNAi) ... 21- and 22-nt RNA fragments are the sequence-specific mediators of RNAi. The short interfering RNAs (siRNAs) are generated by an RNase III–like processing reaction from long dsRNA. Chemically synthesized siRNA duplexes with overhanging 3' ends mediate efficient target RNA cleavage ..." and "... (these) 21-nucleotide siRNA duplexes specifically suppress expression of endogenous and heterologous genes in different mammalian cell(s)..."

Don't know ... but I'll be there! I will be wearing a long gray beard, sunglasses, and a black Amish hat.
